One of the major causes of weakened fountain solution is the build-up of calcium carbonate from paper fillers. As calcium carbonate builds up within the fountain solution system, it neutralizes and weakens the solution. This contamination can cause a variety of press issues, including the filling in of reverses and fine screen, image blinding, and uneven wetting. As a result the fountain solution has to be dumped and replenished prematurely, casting you time and money.
